Pinball Playfield Restorations - Renovations

We can repair most worn or missing insert artwork, shoot lane damage, outholes and airbrush missing or damaged playfield artwork. Most playfields will be $350-500 for repairs, touchups, airbrushing and clear coating. Playfields that require a lot of work will usually run $450-$600 and this INCLUDES wood repairs, brush touchups, airbrushing, insert repairs and clear coating.

PLAYFIELD RESTORATION LEVELS

We have found that some of our customers are wanting high-end playfield restoration. Some want more of a budget restoration with just the key areas restored and a basic clear coat. Others want a stage in between. So we came up with three levels of restoration.

STAGE 1 RESTORATIONS: Mylar removal, basic spot area touchups and airbrushing. Areas that are brushed touched up will be matched as close as possible. Areas that are hidden by ramps or plastics will be left alone. We still will repair outholes and shooter lanes but repairs will be minor.

STAGE 2 RESTORATIONS: Mylar removal. All visible sections of the playfield are touched up/airbrushed blended. Visible woodgrain areas (ball shooter lane, outholes, etc) are re-done with an airbrush to re-create the woodgrain pattern, if needed. Hidden areas are done using basic repairs/touchups. Stage 2 restorations focus on doing restorations to the main areas of the playfield with less focus on the hidden areas. Clear coating is done to level off all inserts and playfields will be close to being totally flat. Most playfields that we do are Stage 2 restorations. Average turnaround time is about 4-6 months.

STAGE 3 RESTORATIONS: This is our high-end restoration. Every part of the playfield is restored, including the hidden areas. Most areas will be totally re-airbrushed. All woodgrain areas are re-woodgrained, even the hidden ones under ramps or plastics. Every lamp, switch hole, etc is cleaned up and addressed. Basically all areas on the playfield are restored for a collector who wants a piece of art or a playfield that looks better than a NOS one. Stage 3 restorations average $100-$400 higher than a stage 2 restoration. Unlike Stage 1 or Stage 2 restorations, the cost of Stage 3 restorations are based on labor time and the amount of clear coating required so your quoted estimated cost may change once the playfield is finished. Turnaround time 6-12 months. Some playfields may not qualify for a Stage 3 restoration.

Our workload is now back to a manageable level on Stage 1 and Stage 2 restorations. We are taking in a limited amount of Stage 3 restorations. All playfields that were shipped to us in 2008 are done. Our current turnaround time is 2-8 months based on the level of restoration required. Playfields that require extreme labor may not be accepted due to our current workload. We currently have several Williams sys11 playfields (Black Knight2000, Whirlwind, Taxi, Earthshaker, etc) and since sys11 playfields usually require 3-times the labor we will not take in any additional sys11 playfields until our workload becomes lighter.

We now require a $200 deposit on all playfields before we start our restoration work. The balance will be due when your playfield is done and ready to be shipped back to you. This does not apply to playfields that require clear coating only. You can send a $200 personal check with your playfield or money order.

How to ship a playfield? Find a box to fit the playfield(s) or build one. Most people use styrofoam and bubble wrap. It's best to sandwich the playfield between two pieces of styrofoam and then bubble wrap it. Then place wrapped playfield in a cardboard box. You may also use a wood box. If you are sending more than one playfield it is best to separate the playfields with styrofoam. You should also insure your playfield and use a shipper of your choice (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.). Most people use UPS or FedEx. Shipping insurance is recommended.
